- earned a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Pathobiology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1998.
- was a postdoc in biomedical research for a couple of years at a couple of institutions.
- taught outdoor (ecological) education to middle school students at a camp in the mountains of Georgia (USA) for a few months in 2000.
- taught general biology to non-majors for 2 years at Winthrop University in South Carolina.
- attended a Biologists at the Design Table workshop in May/June 2005 (Raleigh, NC) for an introduction to biomimicry.
- is now trying to write while holding down a "day job".
- lives in Gastonia, North Carolina.
